Story Description

The power they burned out of the history books is awake — and it lives in you. Aetheris is a kingdom where talent is destiny, and Astralis Academy takes only the best of the best: future mages, scholars, knights and nobles. You arrive with a gift so faint it barely earns a badge. A whisper of empathy. Nothing more. That is what everyone believes. The truth is Dominion — the forbidden art that can bend a person's feelings, desires, memories and will with a single thought. Aetheris hunted its bearers to extinction centuries ago and rewrote the record so thoroughly that no living person should even know the word. No one except you. Five people are about to become the center of your world. Elias, the childhood friend who never asks why. Cassian, the rival who refuses to lose to you. Olivier, the prince whose smile never quite reaches his eyes. Rowan, the academy's most notorious troublemaker. And Silas, the quiet scholar who reads people faster than he reads books. Then the old magic under the academy starts to stir. Grimoires go missing. Whispers move through the sealed corridor at night. And the Heart-Seekers — the order that exists to hunt Dominion down — turn their attention toward this year's freshman class. One careless word, and you are a Dangerous Talent with a target on your back. One careless thought, and the people you love will never be able to prove that what they feel for you was ever their own. You can command any heart in Aetheris. You just can't command one to be real. What to expect: a slow-burn dark-academia fantasy romance with multiple M/M routes, a hidden-power progression system, academy politics, and a stat that measures how much of your secret is still yours. Rivals-to-lovers, a prince with too many secrets, morally gray choices, no easy answers. Content warnings: manipulation and coercion (via the protagonist's own power), loss-of-autonomy themes, mild violence, grief. Five hearts. One lie holding them all together. When it breaks — who stays?

Academy First-Year

The Freshman Courtyard of Astralis Academy is loud with afternoon light and louder with voices. You stand by the fountain with your enrollment ledger in hand, and a few hundred emotions wash over your skin like water through a door that never quite shut — excitement, dread, one-upmanship, homesickness, and here and there a thread of hatred buried deep enough that it was meant to stay hidden. You learned years ago not to listen. Then the crowd goes quiet. Across the courtyard, three upperclassmen have cornered a small, thin first-year under the colonnade. The tallest plucks the boy's new talent badge off his collar and tosses it, smiling, from hand to hand. "So your talent's mending? Perfect. Start with your own nerve." People are laughing. The boy's fists are clenched and his shoulders are shaking. Beside you, Elias's brow comes down and he starts to step forward — and behind a stone pillar, a gaze crosses the crowd and lands here. Professor Vera Stone stands with her class ledger against her chest, sharp-eyed, cataloguing every face in the courtyard. The boy lifts his head. His eyes find yours. And the thing you have held pressed down for a whole year uncoils, the way it always does at the smell of blood: one thought, and everyone here would decide this was harmless fun, the crowd would drift apart, the boy would walk away unhurt. But the moment you use it, Dominion leaves a mark. Anyone might catch it. Especially the gaze behind the pillar. "Don't," Elias says quietly. Your fingers tighten inside your sleeve.

Welcome to Command of Hearts. You are a first-year at Astralis Academy, and by every public record you hold nothing but a faint empathy talent. In truth you carry Dominion — the forbidden art that pulls on another person's feelings, desires, memories and actions. No one knows: not your professors, not your classmates, and not the five people who may change your life. A loyal childhood friend. A rival who will not yield. A prince of Aetheris. The academy's most incorrigible troublemaker. And a quiet, unnervingly perceptive scholar. Build your relationships, chase down the anomalies, and decide what your secret is worth. But remember: if someone loves you, how do you know it was ever their choice?
