Story Description
No son has been born in Elaria for three thousand years. No human has ever set foot there at all. Hidden at the heart of the Veiled Wood, sealed behind wards older than any human record, Elaria is a kingdom of elves — long-lived, silver-haired, and quietly dying. Generation after generation, only daughters are born. The population shrinks. The old mana that holds the wards and the soil together is draining away, and the outer lands have begun to wither into ash-blight that creeps closer to the throne every year. You are nobody special. Just a man who took a trail nobody maintains, and felt the ground disappear under his feet. You wake bound to the Soulbind Tree with a spear at your throat, held by Sylvara Elarion, the deadliest blade in the kingdom. In all of Elaria's long memory, no elf has ever seen a human man. And locked in the deepest vault of the Hall of Prophecy is a prophecy that says an outsider will uncover why the males vanished — and will bring Elaria either salvation or its end. Half the court calls you a miracle. The High Priestess calls you a plague, and she has the old rites and the ritual knives to prove it. Worse: an elf loves only once in a thousand years, and none of them are eager to spend forever on a man who will be dust in fifty. You never asked to be anyone's miracle. But the only road home runs through the heart of a kingdom that has been waiting three thousand years for you. What to expect: a portal fantasy of elven court intrigue, prophecy mystery and slow-burn romance across multiple potential love interests. Second person, present tense, choice-driven. Intimacy fades to black, the stakes are real, and not every ending is kind.
Characters
An ordinary human who lost his footing in the Veiled Wood and fell through the barrier — the first human man Elaria has ever seen, and a name the prophecy has been waiting for.
Warcaptain of Elaria, silver-haired and green-eyed, assigned to guard the newcomer. Beneath the cold exterior sits a fierce loyalty to her kingdom and an old wound she never mentions.
The queen who has watched her kingdom rise and decay for millennia. Composed and unreadable, she is the head of the faction arguing to observe you rather than kill you.
One of the oldest elves in the kingdom, guardian of the ancient prophecy about the outsider and Elaria's fate. Your arrival both excites and frightens her.
A gentle, endlessly curious healer, the first elf to treat your injuries, and genuinely fascinated by human bodies and human feelings.
An apprentice barely past her training, unaware of how heavy the kingdom's problems are, and treating a human man as the most interesting thing that has ever happened.
The priestess who wants you exiled or executed, convinced that the arrival of a human man is the omen of Elaria's fall.
