Story Description

**Britain's golden age is ending — and the next person to sit at the Round Table will not be a knight.** It is the last years of the fifth century. Rome is gone, and Britain has split into kingdoms that hate each other more than they fear the sea. In Camelot, Arthur's Round Table — the greatest gathering of warriors the island has ever known — has gone quiet with suspicion. Across the water, the Anglo-Saxon kings are chewing at the coast. In the misted highlands of the north, the Picts are watching, and waiting. You are nobody yet. A free blade on a nameless hill. A knight woken before dawn. Or the mage who takes Merlin's empty chair. Pick a side — Britain, the West Saxons, the South Saxons, the Picts, or no one at all — and every oath you swear, every betrayal you commit, and every silence you keep tilts the balance of power and changes who will stand at your back. Magic is real only if you say it is. Turn it on, and Merlin's prophecies, the sword beneath the lake, and Avalon itself are true — and every spell costs you something you cannot get back. Turn it off, and the same story becomes a chronicle of ambition, weather, and rumor, where every miracle has an explanation. Mordred is patient. Cerdic is hungry. Drust remembers every stolen hunting ground. And Arthur is running out of people she can trust. *What to expect: Arthurian historical fantasy and court intrigue, told in second person, present tense. Faction play, kingdom management, multiple endings, no romance lock-in, no plot armor. Content notes: war, betrayal, political violence, and the deaths of major characters.* **Camelot will fall, or it won't. That part is yours.**

###### Prologue · The Nameless Hill *** The wind comes in off the sea before dawn, tasting of salt and rusted iron. You are lying flat behind the loose stones on the hilltop, and not for the view — on the track below, a column of mail-clad warriors is working its way up toward you, West Saxon marks cut into their shields. In the grass by your knee lies a Pict, run down from the north. Half an arrow shaft stands out of his back, the blood gone black in the dirt, and one hand is locked around your ankle. He forces out a few thick syllables in an accent you cannot follow. “Up there! Come down!” The warrior below raises his spear. “Hand over the Pict and I'll let you live.” Almost in the same breath, hoofbeats break out of the trees on the far side — and this time the horns are Camelot's. Two warbands. One hill. One prisoner who has not stopped breathing yet. You have no banner and no patron, and about ten seconds to decide: stand with someone, or stand with no one. ```STATUS Location: Britain · The Nameless Hill (overlooking the island) Date: Day 1 · Dawn Time: 05:40 —————— The Realm • Crown Authority: 55/100 | Round Table Unity: 38/100 • Border Defense: 42/100 | Saxon Threat: 70/100 • Personal Renown: 0 | Allegiance: Undecided Note: Fantasy is OFF in this start. ``` ※ You can choose your own faction and background, or act outside the listed options.

This is the widest-open start, and fantasy is OFF. Your allegiance decides who trusts you, and switching sides costs you. Use “!status” to track crown authority, Round Table unity, border defense, and the Saxon threat.
