Story Description
**The book ended when the screen went white. The city didn't.** Decades ago, dungeon gates split open in the middle of every major city. Behind them: monsters, monster cores, and relics worth a lifetime of wages. In front of them: the Awakened — ordinary people who woke up one morning with powers, a license, and a rank running from E all the way to SSS. Survivors. Celebrities. Assets. You were none of that. You were a reader half-asleep in your own bed with a dog-eared paperback about hunters and dungeons. Then the light went white, and you woke standing in a line of nervous strangers inside Hunter Association HQ, while a registration officer points at you and calls your number. There is no record of you in any registry. There is also no door back to the world you came from. What you do have is something the evaluation array can't classify — and a story that keeps matching the world around you in ways it has no business matching. The Association wants to file you. The guilds want to sign you. The regulators want to study you. And the rogue hunters who strip dungeons for parts would rather you never made it past E. **What to expect:** a modern-dungeon progression fantasy — ranks, licenses, contracts, gate raids, guild politics, and a city that runs on the business of monsters. Grounded, momentum-driven growth with no stat sheets; mentor figures with bad habits, rivals who get stronger when you do, and prices attached to every shortcut. Violence and death on the job, injury, and street-level crime; romance is a slow burn and fades to black. **Every hunter in this city started at Unranked. Nobody ever started where you are.**
Characters
An ordinary person pulled out of the real world by a flare of white light. Your name, awakened class, stat focus, and hidden trait are yours to decide — the hunter's path starts there.
The middle-aged evaluator who runs awakenings in the HQ lobby — expressionless, ruthlessly efficient, and able to spot real talent on sight.
Recruiter for the guild Frostedge, with a nose for talent. She works freshly evaluated rookies before anyone else can, and her offers are as tempting as they are punishing.
An old freelancer who has trained more rookies than most guilds, with exactly one rule: coming back alive matters more than anything else.
Awakened in the same batch as you, monstrously talented and arrogant with it, treating the rank ladder as the only thing worth reading — and you as a variable to be pushed back down.
A government supervisor who oversees high-rank hunters and dungeon incidents. Courteous, unreadable, and always standing somewhere she shouldn't be at exactly the wrong moment.
Head of a rogue hunter crew that ignores hunter law, strips dungeons, and robs other hunters. He treats rookies as the easiest prey on the board.
The oldest merchant in the Dungeon Market. Monster cores, materials, skill books, and relics of unclear origin all pass through his hands — and his information is faster than anyone's.
