Story Description

Two paths. One academy. One name at the top. Frostcrown Academy crowns the peak of Snowridge, where the wind never stops and the snow never melts. Sorcery and swordplay are taught under one roof, and every student — fire-specialist or greatsword, first-year or First Seat — climbs the same stairs, fights on the same sand and answers to the same scoreboard. You arrive on induction day with no name on the rolls, no patron, and one thing you have not told anyone: a hidden edge you were born with, and the price you already know it will cost you. The Proctor asks three questions at the gate — your name, your path, your specialty. Answer, and the doors open on four years of classes, rivalries, Ranking Tournament bouts, and expeditions into the Trial Depths, where mana crystals, ancient spellforms and the academy's buried history wait in the dark. Frostcrown is the one school in the north that never forces you to choose forever: cross-train, and you might be the first student in a decade to carry both arts at once. Standing in your way: an honor student with a family name she intends to prove; a headmaster who will trade anyone to keep the academy standing; and the fact that the Depths have already swallowed students better than you. What to expect: an academy progression fantasy with open-world, season-by-season pacing — growth you have to earn, no shortcut powers, a cast that remembers what you did last term, dungeon expeditions with real casualties, and a rival-to-allies slow burn. Content notes: fantasy violence, injury and character death, peril, money and class anxiety, fade-to-black romance. Four years from now, will your name be cut into the Honor Stone — or into the roll of the missing?

Before the Snow Steps

It is not light yet. Wind comes off the peak like a knife, and the gates of Frostcrown Academy are still shut. A few other would-be students stand on the snow steps, saying nothing, breath steaming in the dark. You do not get a second breath before a spark skims past your ear and burns a black hole into the snow. “New blood. Wrong line.” A red-haired girl comes down the steps, embers dancing between her fingers. The badge on her chest marks her as a fire-specialist honor student, and two classmates trail behind her, enjoying the show. “The Proctor asks three things — name, path, specialty. Work out now whether you're the kind who casts or the kind who only swings. Get it wrong, and you'll spend your first term with your tail between your legs.” As she passes, her heel grinds the scorch mark flat and her voice drops to something only you can hear. “Vera Emberheart. Remember it. You'll see it again at the Ranking Tournament.” A Proctor in a silver-white cloak walks up through the snow and stops between you. She touches a fingertip to the air and a shard of ice hangs there, turning slowly. She looks at the scorch mark. Then at you. “Before you cross this threshold, the academy needs to know who is entering it,” she says. “Give me your name, the path you mean to walk, and why you came to this peak that never thaws.”

This is the induction opening. In the setup, lock in your path (Magic / Swordplay), your specialty (Fire / Ice / Lightning / Wind, or Greatsword / Twin Blades / Spear / Shield and Hammer), your background and your hidden edge, then write down what you came here for. Ranks: Unregistered → Initiate → Novice → Adept → Elite → First Seat. You can also question the Proctor first, then decide how to answer.
